Staff
Beaumont Hospital School is now a 2 -teacher school.
The School has a dedicated staff who work closely with our partners in Healthcare.
As our pupils’ profile ranges from age 4 to 19, our service has changed and adapted to the needs of this broad range. We now have both Primary and Second level support.
The Principal is Avril Carey.
As principal, Avril co-ordinates the teaching and learning programmes within the school.
Avril recently completed a Masters research thesis entitled School Re-Entry for Children following Traumatic Brain Injury -An Irish perspective. This has helped shape and tailor the educational supports offered to students here in Beaumont Hospital.
June Robbins is our second level teacher. She is an English Teacher and Music specialist. As an accomplished musician, June plays flute and piano, and loves teaching recorder! Currently we are running a music session on Fridays for all patients in St Raphaels. June helps to look after the Junior and Leaving Cert students in their more structured programme to compliment their learning at school. June has experience in specialist schools, qualified in Birmingham, Trinity and NUIM and enjoys working with students of all ages.
As well as providing a service to Beaumont, the teachers also provide an out-reach service to the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Cappagh, Finglas. As part of the Re-Habilitation Programme in Beaumont Hospital, the teacher is an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team. The team members include Paediatric Registrar, Ward sister, Speech & Language therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational therapist, Social work dept, oncology liaison nurse and brain-injury specialist nurse. The input from the teacher informs the health professionals on the educational progress of the pupils, while feedback from the team can provide a context for planning for the pupil’s educational needs while in hospital and in supporting their re-integration after discharge.
