African Savannah Project

Spread the love

We have been looking at the great plains of Africa for our recent project.

Rudyard Kipling’s story, of how the Leopard changed his Spots, was the inspiration for Rebecca and Rachel’s short film. Enjoy.

Chimpanzees send out hoots and food calls to chimps three km away.

Chimpanzees are omnivores that means they eat leaves and meat.

Baby Chimpanzees cling to their mothers belly when they are young.

Chimpanzees live for 50 years in the wild and weight up to 55 kg.

Chimpanzees use tools to find food.

Chimpanzees walk on all 4 legs.

Ciara wrote a lovely story about how a Tiger gets his dinner. She also wrote about how a Lion hunts.

The tiger lives in the jungle and he is looking for a zebra to eat. A tiger is waiting camouflaged in the long grass until he sees a zebra. Then he chased the zebra. He grabbed the zebra with his claws and dragged him into a hole. Then he ate him.

The lion were running after the zebra. They caught their victims. They eat them with their very big teeth. I think it is cruel to kill the animals because they get hurt.

Ciara made a lovely picture using card and other materials of the African animals that we have been learning about.

Using building noodles Katie made a lovely 3D elephant. The noodles are made out of starch and stick together when you wet them. What do you think of the building noodles as a material for art? Katie thought they were an unique material to use and had great possibilities!

Katie moulded the head of the gazelle out of clay, after it was dry we painted it by mixing colours. While it dried I drew the body of the gazelle using pencil and colouring pencil 🙂
